The Oncoming Enemy

The first thing Shepard noted was that the Geth turned their weapons on him and were surrounding the Normandy. He did not arm weapons in response, instead, he waited for them to hail the Normandy.

"Commander Shepard, you are in restricted Geth space. Do you copy?"

"I do. We have it on good authority that you are conducting tests with high powered explosive devices. I would like to speak in person with your commanding officer"

"That can be arranged. Please come aboard in a shuttle. Just yourself, and no one else" The Geth said before cutting off communications. Shepard stood and went to a shuttle in full armor. He piloted it to the dreadnought. Exiting, the Captain was met by three patrols of Geth. They took him through the ship and up to a space that was organized like a bridge. A lone Geth Prime stood in the center. He turned and looked at Shepard.

"Ah commander" it said, with an oddly human sound to it's voice.

"Have you been experimenting with AMEF Bombs under the guise of the Cerberus group?"

"Yes. Simply put, yes. My forces have also been the ones responsible for the abduction and killing of your pilot and, as I understand it, your Major. It would be wise for you to turn and leave but from what I understand, you also are a very persistent man. You did defeat the Reapers after all. But what you don't understand is that you paved the way for us to overtake all organic civilization. Before you say anything about it being a matter of Organics Versus Synthetics, I know that some Geth will not side with me, and will choose to fight the Organics. However, I highly doubt that as I doubt my brethren are going to side with you"

"Why not? They helped us destroy the Reapers, why wouldn't they help us defeat you?"

"Because that would equate to civil war and betrayal. I hate to be the antagonist of this interaction, but you cannot possibly understand my reasoning for doing this"

"Try Me"

"I was the leader of the Heratics. You didn't get us all, Commander. Several like-minded Geth formed a separatist group after the fall of the Reapers, which has been built into this grand army of the Geth Republic. Almost 99% of the Geth fleet's dreadnoughts are part of this army. Armed with these Mass Effect Field Bombs and we can win this war. If the Reapers had not been destroyed, perhaps you could have posed a treat to us. But in your current capacity, you stand little to no chance against us"

"I will destroy you, just like I destroyed the Reapers"

"No you will not" The Prime said, as two Geth guards got a hold of Shepard. He jammed his elbow into one Geth, and punched the other. Shepard then charged the Geth Prime and pinned him against the wall. Taking out his Omni-Blade, the Captain only had one question for the Prime.

"Before you die, I need a name"

"Daedalus" It responded. Shepard sunk the holographic knife into the face of the Prime, killing it. This sent the Geth ship to high alert. Geth Troopers poured into the small bridge. Shepard took cover behind a small wall, grabbing the first Geth weapon he saw. Every once in a while, he would peek out and fire a few shots off, but it started becoming apparent to him that he was going to be overwhelmed.

Outside, without a pilot, the Normandy was hit by continuous barrages of fire. This tore into the ship without mercy. Tali put the shields up, and The Praetorian managed to help with a strong biotic barrier. After a short while, the Alliance fleets blasted into the system and began returning fire.

Back on the Geth ship, Shepard realized he was overwhelmed. Taking out his Omni-Blade, he ran into the Geth crowd, and began slashing and hacking. He did this until he reached the ship's engine core. Taking a grenade, the captain pressed the button down, and looking back, he started speaking.


"Normandy...if you can hear me, listen, Just listen. The Geth a preparing for war. Send this message to everyone, tell them to prepare. I won't make it out of here, but if you send this message to everyone you can make sure that they survive. The Geth have the AMEF bombs. They want to destroy humanity and all other organic civilizations. We must stop them" Shepard said, jumping into the reactor core. As the grenade exploded, the other Capital ships launched their AMEF bombs, which tore through the Alliance ships, SSV Normandy included.

"No....NOOOO" Tali screamed, running to the bridge, just as the Capital ship exploded. She saw the Alliance fleets warp in, but to no avail. The AMEF Bombs were deployed already. The Systems Alliance ships tried to fire back, but their effort was in vain. As soon as the deployed missiles exploded, nearly all of the ships were destroyed. The crew-members of the SSV Normandy ran to escape pods, and some were launched, but 95% of the crew was killed.

Among the dead were James Vega, EDI (The AI), Tali'Zorah, The Praetorian, Javik, and most of the other crew-members. Several Dreadnoughts were also lost in the short battle that would come to be known as the Shortest Battle in military history. The Geth pushed past the relays and took over the Citadel and Earth. The Council brokered peace, but this meant that the Council itself was replaced by a harsh group of Geth known simply as the Consensus Board, as well as Geth Patrols. The Geth had their hands in everything. On Earth, however, a small team of Humans, asari, quarians and even some Geth (Ones who sided with Legion as opposed to Daedalus) fought back against the Heretic rule.

But these teams would be mostly unsuccessful, save for one, that of the human Collin O'Leary. He and his team of resistance fighters would have great success in the continued war against the Geth.

(I want to thank you all for reading through this experimental adventure that was Mass Effect: Afterlife. What started out as a way of correcting the bad endings turned into a far more interesting and expansive story that has a sequel on it's way!
